Bill Leake - Platform & Principles
"When I got more involved in politics a few years back I realized that I don’t totally agree with some aspects of either party’s platform. To think one individual, or one group, or one political party has the only solutions would be naive. I know that coming up with the best solutions to the challenges facing our great State requires legislators to be willing to work with all their fellow legislators. We must evaluate the pros and cons of each piece of legislation presented to determine if it is in the best interest of our citizens."
"My resume shows that I have a proven track record in getting things done and done right the first time along with the experience, leadership skills and willingness to be a team player to represent you in the state of Idaho Legislature. That is why I am asking you to elect me as your next state representative. "
"I will listen to everyone’s opinions in our District as to what you think should be done better in our state government. And I will work on legislation to address those shortcomings. If I’m elected, I will do my best to listen to all my constituents, Republican, Democrat, or otherwise and work to do what is in the best interest of the citizens of our District. The Republican Party has lost its direction and is failing the citizens of Idaho by not being unified and focusing on the real issues facing our state."

My thoughts on important challenges facing Idaho:
Education - We need to ensure all students have access to a high-quality
education and bring our graduation rate to as close to 100% as we can.
Affordable healthcare insurance - We need to ensure all citizens of Idaho
have affordable healthcare.
Maintaining our roads and bridges - We need to ensure our roads and
bridges are in good condition for safe travel throughout our state.
Abortion - A woman in consultation with her chosen healthcare provider
should be afforded the liberty to decide how to address her health care
options based on her own moral and ethical beliefs.
Sex education to prevent adolescent pregnancies - The specific education
content and how it is presented should be determined by the local School
Districts not through state level legislation.
The right to bear arms as provided by the U.S. Constitution - I strongly
believe that the right to bear arms should be maintained but that we need to
ensure guns out are not in the hands of irresponsible and mentally impaired
individuals.
Human and civil rights - Our Constitution guarantees that everyone has the
right to life, liberty and their pursuit of happiness and we need to ensure
this.
Voting rights - I oppose gerrymandered legislative redistricting because
it does not provide a true representation of Idahoans and alienates
citizens.
Health and welfare programs - Should be provided to those who need
a hand. A hand up, not a handout.
Responsible growth and development - We need to ensure growth is well
thought out to sustain vibrant and healthy communities for our citizens and
businesses.
Keeping our public lands public - We need to ensure public land access is
maintained for recreational users and to enable sustainable use by ranchers
and other natural resource users where appropriate and environmentally
sustainable.
Preserving environmental health - We need to ensure we maintain clean air
and water for future generations. This includes ensuring our aquifers are
recharged and stream flows maintained.
